New Works @ Two Point Gallery-literally!

Hello art enthusistits!

Here we are  again,  another show has arrived and this time it brought with it….color!

Introducing a  new face to the Maine art scene- not permanently, but our grand visitor hailing all the way from the big  state of Wisconsin, our talented and handsome…Arther Mohagen! He brings to Two Point a series of portrait drawings on paper. All sixteen portraits drawn with charcoal, pencil and eraser, intentionally leaving behind the bold hierarchy of pen lines. He mixes his interest in typography with the illustrated icons he draws, also drawn in pencil. Most of the words communicating with the portrait have a hidden sense of humor behind it. Whether its interpreted or an inside joke, anyone can find room for a little laugh in between. His work is funny, fresh and brings back to the table the primitive technique of drawing with pencil on paper, a subtle yet unique tool that he uses in his work very well.

Mirroring on the other side of the gallery is the lovely and tranquil work of our own MECA graduate, Molly Levine and her freshly squeezed New Works! I had the pleasure of unwrapping the paintings last night from their loose fitted quilts and fabric protection to reveal some eye opening pieces of work.  Her brushstrokes, her scale, the colors, her hints of humored details fell in the right spot. I indulged in this blank gaze for about 5 minutes or so and suddenly i started thinking  about how exciting it will look from the front windows of the gallery. From some spots outside  the gallery you can fit the art in your mouth- at once.

Lets  start on the colors!

OOoWweee! they’re pretty much on fire when it comes to color choices. She makes sure that we, as the viewer  should become asethically satisfied with her surrealistic renderings of buildings, neighborhood grids, city-scapes and busy life through her relatively large canvas and streaming gradients.

The show is pretty much wrapped up and ready to be revealed to our city! So i hope all ‘yall gets to join us in the celebration tomorrow for First Friday! See you then.
